20세기 듀오 예술을 이끌었던 엘라 피츠제럴드와 루이 암스트롱의 결정판이자 설명이 필요 없는 기념비적인 작품으로 재즈 입문자는 물론 재즈 비평가들의애청음반 0순위에 꼽히는 명작이다.

13차례의 그래미상을 수상한 엘라 피츠제럴드는1976년 제18회 그래미 어워드에서 재즈가수 ‘멜 토메(Mel Torme)’가 “재즈란 무엇인가요?” 라고 질문하자 엘라는 빙그레 웃으면서 노래로 답한다. 바로 이 앨범은 재즈 보컬이란 무엇인가에 대한 해답을 준다
